The B Word

January 14, 2016

It started like any other day. I laid on the floor while Mommers was getting ready. For her B-word. But she had a another idea. And Zaida seemed to know… FullSizeRender 3

BUT THEN!!!! She said the B-Word was for me. We all know about the B word. It’s a dirty four letter word that puppies and kitties should never, EVER, ever hear! FullSizeRender 5

You gots it! She made me take – cover your ears with your paws little doggies – a BATH! Like I was a dirty pup or something. Look at the water – it’s crystal, umm, I can see through it so it’s clean!

FullSizeRender 4

AND then…she thought she would make it all better to make me look like a monkey! Why Mommers why? The B-word was bad enuff, and now you’re making me match my Zaida monkey! One monkey is enuff in this house and it’s not me! FullSizeRender 7

2015 was a busy year and I wants to thank everypawdy who volunteered, donated, or sponsored the events we held and took part in!

Fostering:

  • We fostered 2 litters of kittens totaling 8 kitties.
  • We fostered 2 litters of puppies totaling 5 puppies.

Rescue Pulls:

  • We were able to pull 1 senior dog from a shelter and are permanently fostering him.
  • We were able to pull 1 pitbull dog from deathrow at a kill shelter, fundraise, and place into foster/rescue.

Fundraisers:

  • Valentine’s Fundraiser for Water’s Edge Mardi-Paws – raised $200+ bones
  • Fall Auction to raise bones for my 501c3 fees
  • Flood Drive to help shelters affected by the mass flooding – we sent boxes to 7 SC shelters
  • CAS Chili-Cookoff – we raised over $700 for Toby’s fund by selling tickets and booth donations
  • Howliday Auction – we raised $300 bones for my Howliday Toy Drive.
  • Howliday Toy Drive – toy drops in 15 locations; delivered toy boxes to 8 lowcountry shelters & rescues.

For 2015, we have been able to raise money via a Valentines drive as a sponsor for the Mardi Gras Pawrade benefitting WEDGR, pull 2 dogs from death row, support a permanent foster, and foster 2 litters of puppies and 2 litters of kittens. We also organized a drive to help the animal rescues affected by the South Carolina flooding in October, and are currently working to raise money for the annual Chili Cook-Off in November to support the Charleston Animal Society.

October 15, 2015

I was inspired for the BlogPaws Wordless Wednesday from their post Driving Lessons. Well, I just wuv to drive, and so does Cloudy! Maybe we aren’t exactly Driving Miss Daisy, but we often drive Mommers or Arabella! BOL! Of course, we get demoted to wingman sometimes, but that’s ok and just as much fun, too! FullSizeRender

Cloudy likes to take the captains seat!

Adopt a Shelter Pup Month!

October 7, 2015

Pupsters! October is such a pawsome month! It’s Adopt a Shelter Pup Month, and Pitbull Awareness Month! Today I want to share a couple pitties in need here in my home state of SC. As many of you have seen on the news, we have been hit hard with rain and flooding, which has devastated many of our state shelters. So, here are a few pups that could use some extra love and sharing.

Montana - Darlington Co Animal ShelterMONTANA

Montana is a smaller, one year old sweetheart pitbull who would wuv to come live in your home! He is heartworm negative and gets along great with other pups, but finds kitties a bit too exciting. He was taken to Darlington County Animal Shelter after his “owner” abandoned him and 5 other pups! He is eager for training and furever home. FREE transport is available!

Click his foto for his YouTube video premiere!
Adopters pawlease visit www.darlingtonhumane.org  Rescues, contact KimDCHSTiedemann@gmail.com.

Bocephus @ Orangeburg Animal Shelter

BOCEPHUS

Bocephus is a pitbull mix about 2 years old and is pawsome with both pups and cats! He is heartworm negative (yay!) and a super fun pup!

Click his foto for the Friends of Orangeburg Animal Shelter page!
Adopters pawlease email rescuemesc@gmail.com.

Mack the pitbull

MACK

Mack is a bully breed pup that is a 60lb, 2-3 year bundle of wuv!  He is heart worm positive but the Sinbad-Sadie Rescue can raise treatment funds – first he needs out of a rescue-pull-only shelter. Mack has a great personality, very laid back and lovable, A foster home or an adoption home, either will work.

For foster or adoption contact kym.sinbad.sadie@gmail.com

Heartworm Prevention Day

October 1, 2015

IMG_5376Hiya Pupsters! I want to talk to you about something VERY VERY impawtant! Heartworm Prevention! I’m so glad today is Heartworm Prevention Day! And where I live in the lowcountry of Charleston, SC, heartworms are very prevalent in pups without prevention. Yup, you guessed it – most strays and neglected dogs have this horrible condition! But they aren’t the only ones…

How does a dog get heartworms? All it takes is one tiny bite from one tiny annoying mosquito, then ZAP! Pup is infected. From there, the tiney larvae travel to the pups heart where they grow into very long worms. If left untreated, the worms grow so big that they obstruct the heart, causing breathing issues which you may notice in the form of coughing and lethargy.

Did you know that a heartworm prevention can save your pups life? A once a month tablet or chew can prevent heartworms in your dog. Approximately $20/month to prevent something that can cost well over a $1000 and months to correct, IF it’s caught early enuff and not fatal. That’s almost 5-7 years of prevention!!

BUT my dog won’t get it… Pups left untreated for short periods, and even inside dogs, are still at great risk for heartworms. Mosquitos can fly anywhere, sneaking inside while a door or window is open, and all they have to do is sniff us out, land, and bite. So of course, I recommend staying on a heartworm preventative year round, on a monthly schedule so you don’t forget!

Talk to your vet! Your vet will be able to recommend the bet option for your dog’s heartworm prevention. We use aIMG_5375 couple types of prevention in our house because we all have different needs, just like hoomans! AND, if you suspect a pup may have heartworms, get them to the Dogtor! Early detection makes treatment easier and less likely for complications or death.

Helpful MilkTip: I learned today from a hooman furiend in the animal world that it is recommended to break the heartworm prevention chews or tablets into pieces. We can digest it better that way, and it reduces the chance to be passed when we poop!

Charleston, SC Pupsters! PetHelpers can do a heartworm test for county residents for only $30 and you can order heartworm prevention online to get the cheapest cost. Other programs offered occasionally can lower this cost. Also, North Charleston residents of certain zip codes may qualify for Charleston Animal Society’s Pets for Life Program!

This post is pawed in memory of sweet Addison. She was one of the first pups moms fostered well before I was born, and she had been abandoned in the woods to survive on her own after being bred. Unfortunately, Addison had heartworms and passed from complications due to heartworm treatment. She lives in all of our hearts and will always be remembered, and a reason for us to educate Pupsters on the impawtance of heartworm prevention. She was too sweet to pass over the rainbow bridge.
